“In the end, when it mattered most, Olympic Airlines came through,” said AHEPA International President Ike Gulas. “The Greek-American community owes them a debt of gratitude for their assistance.”
Last week, AHEPA asked its chapters to assemble the care packages and send them to its national headquarters in Washington, D.C., for eventual to transport to Olympic Airlines.
“Olympic Airlines has sponsored AHEPA programs and initiatives in the past and we are glad that we can work together again to facilitate transport of our care packages,” said Executive Director Basil Mossaidis. “The first care packages arrived at AHEPA Headquarters last week and we have received a steady supply since then, and more are expected.”
Moreover, AHEPA named Olympic Airlines its official Greek airline carrier for its 86th Annual Convention in Athens, Greece, July 2008.
AHEPA is the largest Greek-American association in the world with chapters in the United States, Canada, Greece, Cyprus, and sister chapters in Australia and New Zealand. It was established in 1922 by visionary Greek Americans to protect Hellenes from prejudice originating from the KKK, and in its history, AHEPA joined with the NAACP and B'nai B'rith International to fight discrimination.
The mission of the AHEPA family is to promote the ideals of Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility and family and individual excellence.
The AHEPA family consists of four organizations: AHEPA, Daughters of Penelope, Sons of Pericles and Maids of Athena.
