AHEPA International President Ike Gulas returned to Washington, DC this week to personally congratulate Ambassador Speckhard on his selection. “I felt it important to return to Washington in order to meet with the ambassador and discuss AHEPA’s role as leaders in the Greek-American community,” said Gulas. “AHEPA has had an excellent and long-standing relationship with the US Embassy in Greece, and I’m confident this will continue with Ambassador Speckhard, who has our full support in his new post.”
The evening proved to be successful and well attended. Ambassador Speckhard was joined by members from the US Department of State, as well as Greece’s and Cyprus’s Ambassadors to the United States, Alexandros Mallias and Andreas Kakouris. Ambassador Angelos Pangratis, Minister and Deputy Head of Delegation of the European Commission to the United States; and Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), stopped-in to wish Ambassador Speckhard well.
Moreover, His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, conveyed the blessing of the All-Holy Tomb of our Lord Jesus Christ.
AHEPA is the largest Greek-American association in the world with chapters in the United States, Canada, Greece, Cyprus, and sister chapters in Australia and New Zealand. It was established in 1922 by visionary Greek Americans to protect Hellenes from prejudice originating from the KKK, and in its history, AHEPA joined with the NAACP and B'nai B'rith International to fight discrimination.
The mission of the AHEPA family is to promote the ideals of Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility and family and individual excellence.
The AHEPA family consists of four organizations: AHEPA, Daughters of Penelope, Sons of Pericles and Maids of Athena.
