AHEPA Welcomes Congressional Delegation in Athens

Ambassador Daniel Speckhard, State Dept Officials Attend

WASHINGTON, D.C. —The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the leading association for the nation’s 1.3 million American citizens of Greek ancestry, and Philhellenes, welcomed a six- member Congressional Delegation (CODEL) at a luncheon in Athens, Greece, on Tuesday November 27.

At the luncheon, AHEPA Executive Director Basil Mossaidis expressed his thanks for all who attended, adding that “We applaud the members for participating on this CODEL. It has been several decades since AHEPA had the opportunity and privilege to welcome a Congressional Delegation in Greece. In our 85-year history, we have consistently acted as the bridge between the US and Greece to help foster a better understanding between its people, culture and politics.”

Also in attendance were AHEPA Family members, led by, Daughters of Penelope Grand President Karen Stamatiades, Sons of Pericles Supreme President Rick Pecka and Maids of Athena Grand President Stephanie Maniatis.

Moreover, AHEPA Past Supreme President Steve Betzelos made a few remarks in regard to our progress with the 86^th Annual Convention, which will be held in Athens, Greece, July 1-12, 2008.
