WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ike Gulas, Supreme President of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the leading association for the nation’s 1.4 million American citizens of Greek ancestry, and Philhellenes, today raised the issue of Greece’s entry into the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) at a forum hosted by the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, featuring Her Excellency Dora Bakoyiannis, Foreign Minister of Greece.

AHEPA has been at the forefront in promoting this issue and has had success in its educating Congress and US Administration officials about the importance in VWP expansion.

“AHEPA will see this issue through to completion,” said Gulas. “The recent nomination by US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice is a great start and now we have to follow-through with the Department of Homeland Security as security assessments are being made,” added Gulas.

Foreign Minister Bakoyiannis thanked Mr. Gulas for raising this issue at the forum and for AHEPA’s support. Later they discussed the upcoming AHEPA Supreme Convention in Athens, Greece, this July. Ms. Bakoyiannis acknowledged AHEPA's willingness to come  to  Greece and added that both Greece, and herself, are looking forward to AHEPA’s return.

Moreover, immediately after the forum, Mr. Gulas was interviewed by Voice of America. For further information or a copy of the article, visit www.voanews.com/greek.
