“The most sacred right we have as citizens is the right to vote,” said Gulas. “Voting is the language with which democracy is spoken. In the spirit of civic responsibility, we are encouraging our chapters to organize voter registration drives in their respective communities to make the effort to all our fellow citizens have the ability to vote.”

Through the “AHEPA Vote ‘08” Web page (www.ahepa.org/vote), one can download the National Voter Registration Form, click on one of the URL links to a voter registration Web site, and download a voter registration public service announcement to reproduce, publish, or post in a community center or hall.
As part of its voter education campaign, AHEPA also has posted its Presidential Questionnaire on its “AHEPA Vote ‘08” Web page. The questionnaire featuring eight policy questions (four domestic and four foreign policy), along with cover letter, was sent to the two major presidential campaigns on August 18. A comparison chart will be published once policy statements on Hellenic American issues are received.
Moreover, to complete the voter education effort, AHEPA will publish online its 2008 Congressional Scorecard. Intended for educational and information purposes only, the scorecard will display the level of commitment members of Congress have to issues of importance to the Hellenic American community.
“Because the success of government depends on an educated citizenry, we are proud to provide the community with these helpful tools to make informed decisions,” said Gulas.
