MAIDS OF ATHENA, MUSES CHAPTER 22

History

The Maids of Athena is the junior woman’s auxiliary of the Daughters of Penelope. The age of the members is 14 through 23.

The Order of the Maids of Athena is dedicated to the principles and virtues symbolizing the goddess of Athena of ancient Greek mythology. The Order was founded through the inspiration of Thomas D. Lentgis, Supreme Governor of the Order of AHEPA on July 5, 1930 in Tacoma Washington. The Maids of Athena officially became the Junior Auxiliary of the Daughters of Penelope in 1950. The objectives of this organization are as follows:

  1. Instill the spirit of patriotism
  2. Stimulate love and appreciation of Hellenic Culture, traditions and ideals.
  3. Promote high standards of ethics and good fellowship.
  4. Foster the growth and enhancement of charity
  5. Assist the Order of AHEPA and the Daughters of Penelope in carrying out their aims and purposes.
  6. Preparation of members for admission into the Order of Daughters of Penelope.

Projects

Our National Project of this year is the “Make-a-Wish Foundation” in Greece. This contribution was met via a holiday basket raffle. On-going projects on the local level include helping in the “Rainbow House Shelter” and wrapping Christmas presents at the “Stepping Stones Shelter”.

We are fortunate to have several scholarships available to our graduating high school seniors as well as our college members.

Fellowship, love of our heritage and traditions are the bond that develops and continues to grow along with us. For additional information and/or joining the Maids of Athena the following officers are available to be contacted:
