WASHINGTON, D.C. - The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the leading association for the nation's 1.3 million American citizens of Greek ancestry, and Philhellenes, visited Olympic Airlines Cargo Manager Nick Georgatos at the Swiss Airlines Cargo terminal 21 at JFK airport yesterday to deliver and transport more than 270 care packages to Greece for the victims of last month's devastating fires.

Action Alert - Greek Fire Relief Care Boxes

IMPORTANT UPDATE:  The deadline for mailing care packages to AHEPA Headquarters has passed.  Thank you to everyone who helped make this effort a tremendous success.  If you did not make the deadline, and would still like to help the fire victims in Greece, please contribute directly to the AHEPA Emergency Greek Fire Relief Fund.  And, again, thank you for your overwhelming generosity!  

 
Greek Fire Care Boxes

Care Package Checklist

We are asking each chapter to make a minimum of four (4) boxes consisting of the following items:

  • Pillows
  • Blankets
  • Sleeping Bags
  • Towels
  • Hand Soap (bars, not liquid)
  • Baby Diapers
  • Sanitary Pads
  • Toothbrushes
  • Children’s Clothing
  • Men's and Women's socks
  • Men’s and Women’s underwear
  • Men's & Women's Shoes – various sizes

 

Furthermore, we ask that all items collected are properly packaged and boxed for transport before sending them to AHEPA Headquarters. Please do not send any liquids or canned foods. 

Upon receipt, we will be sending the care packages directly to Greece, through the generous help of Olympic Airlines.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the leading association for the nation’s 1.3 million American citizens of Greek ancestry, and Philhellenes, held multiple meetings in order to lay the foundation for the upcoming administrative year.

National President Ike Gulas returned to Washington, DC this week to meet with numerous government officials. “It was important to return to Washington to discuss our agenda for the administrative year and to explore additional avenues to aid the people of Greece,” said Gulas.

AHEPA: Greece Formally Nominated to Enter Visa Waiver Program

Washington, D.C. - The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the leading association for the nation’s 1.3 million American citizens of Greek ancestry, and Philhellenes, applauds Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for her formal nomination of Greece to be a member of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

High level administration officials met with officials from the Greek Embassy to discuss this issue last week. “We are pleased with the recent developments,” said AHEPA National President Ike Gulas. “This is a significant and important step as Greece has formally started the process for its inclusion into the Visa Waiver Program.”

America’s reaction to the destruction of the summer fires in Greece is discussed in this week’s edition of Reportaz Apo Washington, a VOA/Greek television presentation for affiliate stations in Greece, Cyprus and communities of the Hellenic Diaspora.  AHEPA Executive Director Basil Mossaides was among the community leaders who came to our studio to express concern for the people of Greece at this critical hour and to offer hope to those affected by the disaster.  He spoke on behalf of AHEPA Supreme President Ike Gulas, who was on travel to chapters coordinating AHEPA’s response to the crisis.  Several of his comments were included in this week’s edition of Reportaz Apo Washington.  However, other important information offered by Mr. Mossaides was edited out in order for the program to meet airing time constraints.  Following is the full text of the interview granted by the AHEPA Executive Director to VOA.
