The Daughters of Penelope is the women's affiliate organization of the AHEPA Family with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was founded in 1929, in San Francisco.

Today, the Daughters of Penelope is a leader in philanthropic, educational and cultural activities with local chapters in the United States, Canada and Greece.

Barbara Stavis Wolf was elected Grand President of the Daughters of Penelope at the Athens, Greece, Supreme Convention, July 5, 2008.  The new Grand President is a 33 year member of the Daughters of Penelope in Nestor Chapter #55 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Other officers elected in Athens to serve on the Daughters of Penelope Grand Lodge for 2008-2009 are:

  • Grand Vice President Elaine Sampanis, of  West Chester, Ohio;
  • Canadian President Diane Polesello Lygouriatis of Calgary, Canada;

Daughters of Penelope

Objectives
The objectives of the Daughters of Penelope are to promote the social, ethical and intellectual interests of its members; to perpetuate the study of American ideals and to encourage Hellenic study; to cultivate citizenship and patriotism for the United States of America and other countries in which chapters exist; and to preserve the ideals and traditions of Hellenism as a contribution to the development of America. The Daughters of Penelope is non-partisan and non-denominational.

Mission Statement
The Mission of the AHEPA Family is to promote Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, Family and Individual Excellence.

Organizational Structure
The Daughters of Penelope is comprised of the following units:

  • Local Chapters: All Daughters of Penelope are members of local chapters which conduct meetings and sponsor civic, educational, charitable and social activities. Chapter officers are elected annually by the members.
  • Regional Districts: Daughters of Penelope chapters are grouped into Districts which organize regional seminars, conferences, events and drives. District officers are elected annually at District Conventions.
  • U.S. and Canada Leadership
  • Maids of Athena: The Maids of Athena is the young women's auxiliary of the Daughters of Penelope.

Philanthropic Projects
The Daughters engage in a number of local, regional and national level philanthropic projects.

Community Involvement
As the leading Greek American organization for women, the Daughters of Penelope encourages its members to participate in local community projects. Many achievements are a matter of record, and are recognized nationwide. The diversity and uniqueness of its membership continues to enhance the growth of the Daughters of Penelope.
