WASHINGTON - Dr. John Grossomanides, supreme president of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), a leading membership-based association for the nation's three million American citizens of Greek heritage and Philhellenes, presented a $7,500 donation toward Apostoli Mission, a food bank charity under the direction of the Church of Greece on April 6, 2012, the delegation's last day in Athens. The $7,500 donation to the mission will provide 400 food kits to families in need. Each food kit feeds a family of four for about 15 days.

WASHINGTON - The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), a leading membership-based association for the nation's three million American citizens of Greek heritage and Philhellenes, and its affiliated organization, the Daughters of Penelope, brought their legislative agenda to the attention of Capitol Hill legislators and their staffs on March 28, 2012 during their annual Capitol Hill Day. More than 70 congressional offices from the Senate and House sides were visited by AHEPA family members who represented 18 states. In addition, several young professional and student organizations participated, including representatives from the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals, Johns Hopkins Hellenic Students Association, Cypriot Youth Committee of America, National Hellenic Students Association, and The Next Generation Initiative.

Continental Airlines 

WASHINGTON - The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) and the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) sent a joint letter to United Continental Holdings Inc.'s President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffery A. Smisek to express disappointment with United Continental's November 2011 decision to terminate the seasonal non-stop flight from Newark (EWR) to Athens, Greece, which was a Continental route.
