Phalanx 500
As our journey into the 21st century progresses, AHEPA needs your assistance NOW more than ever. With our responsibility to meet the needs of a global Hellenic community growing daily, and in conjunction with fulfilling the mission and objectives of our Order domestically, our organization’s finances are tighter than ever before.
But there is good news…AHEPA has grown to become a true international organization as initiatives like AHEPA International allow us to speak with a strong, unified voice worldwide. Here at home, AHEPA remains engaged in membership recruitment programs and other initiatives to increase our visibility. We continue to be recognized as the leading Hellenic heritage organization in the world. To ensure that future generations of outstanding and promising Greek Americans are to receive the same, and if not better, opportunities of membership in AHEPA, I ask that you join me and other leaders of AHEPA in making a difference. AHEPA has embarked on a bold development program designed to uphold our mission and sustain our Order well into the third millennium—AHEPA Phalanx 500. What Is AHEPA Phalanx 500?In military science a phalanx, a concept fully developed by the ancient Greeks, is a tactical formation consisting of a block of heavily armed infantry, in close array, standing shoulder to shoulder in files several ranks deep.
In essence the main definition of a phalanx—a core group or organized body of persons—symbolically represents the concept of AHEPA Phalanx 500. Instead of being heavily armed with weaponry, the members of Phalanx 500 are armed with a financial commitment to augment the special projects and programs that will nourish AHEPA and its members, allowing our Order to grow for years to come.
Phalanx 500 will be composed of a maximum 500 Ahepans contributing $500 each year over a maximum period of ten years. Phalanx 500 contributions will not be deposited into the general operating fund of AHEPA. Instead, the program, through an Endowment Fund, will be a resource that will give Ahepans the opportunity to support the many philanthropic, civic, humanitarian, and educational projects that AHEPA must undertake as the preeminent Hellenic heritage organization. Phalanx 500 will aid AHEPA in providing natural disaster relief, organizing leadership conferences and discussion panels, and of course in meeting our commitment to Hellenism…just to name a few.
To Become One of the Phalanx 500A minimum $500 gift each year over a maximum ten-year period enrolls you as a member of Phalanx 500. Contributions can be made with one-time ($5,000), annual ($500) for ten years, or quarterly ($125) checks. An automatic monthly giving system via credit card is also available. Payments to Phalanx 500 are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
The limited-edition, attractive and sequentially-numbered (1 to 500) lapel pin is the pride of Ahepans who have joined Phalanx 500. A duplicate of your framed certificate goes to your chapter for display in your chapter’s meeting hall or room.
A breakfast at the National Convention allows a time for you and fellow members of Phalanx 500 to gather. A Phalanx 500 newsletter will keep you informed on how your gift is benefiting AHEPA. A Chapter Phalanx is formed when ten or more Ahepans from a chapter join Phalanx 500 (for chapters with membership over 100).
