This Week For Greeks! - Vol.2 Issue 28 - Monday, September 15, 2008
A Message from the Supreme President
Brothers, Sisters and Friends:
We had a fantastic and productive Governors' Conference over the weekend in Washington. It was great to see representatives from all across the AHEPA Family Domain-from Iowa and Wyoming to Canada and Greece-gathered together to discuss our agenda for the upcoming administrative year. We have an excellent group of District Governors who are primed to lead and will be outreaching to our chapters and members in the community about the many exciting programs and services AHEPA has to offer in education, civics, and philanthropy. Moreover, constructive and innovative ideas were exchanged on membership development as we approach our year-end deadline. We look forward to sharing our "Best Practices" with you in the future. In the meantime, with your help, we look forward to a banner year.
I would express my sincere gratitude to the Baltimore Orioles baseball club for hosting "AHEPA Day" on Saturday. Following our District Governors' Conference, the AHEPA family boarded buses and headed up I-95 to catch an Orioles game at Camden Yards. There, my son, Alex, had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. While this is a memorable moment for my family, I wish it was not because of the fact that Alex has Cooley's Anemia (Thalassemia Major), a fatal genetic blood disease affecting individuals of Mediterranean descent. However because of the Baltimore Orioles, we were able to help create awareness about Cooley's Anemia to a large audience, and we're grateful for that opportunity. To help us create awareness or to educate about this disease-or to make a financial contribution to the AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation-please visit www.ahepa.org/cooleys.
Again, our thanks to all those who traveled to Washington to be with us this weekend.
Fraternally,

Ike Gulas, Supreme President
