A Message from the Executive Director

Basil Mossaidis

Brothers, Sisters and Friends:

I thank Supreme President Ike Gulas for affording me the opportunity to address the readers of This Week For Greeks! This electronic newsletter has turned out to be a very useful tool to provide our audience with timely updates about the Hellenic community and AHEPA.

On Friday, the Supreme President asked me to attend a fundraising dinner hosted by Supreme Governor Louis Arvanitis, Montvale, N.J. Supreme Secretary Dr. John Grossomanides, and the National Chairman of the AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation, Fanoula Gulas, also attended the event which raised funds for the AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation and the AHEPA Educational Foundation's Journey to Greece Program. Mrs. Gulas and Dr. Grossomanides spoke about the AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation and Educational Foundation, respectively, providing the audience with the latest news about how these programs are benefiting our society. More than 350 persons came together in support of the event, and in the end, close to $10,000 was donated to each program.

The event could not have been a success without the fantastic work of The Graycliff catering facility in northern New Jersey. Moreover words cannot express the gratitude we feel toward Brother Arvanitis, who demonstrated vision, leadership, and great fellowship in helping AHEPA fulfill its mission.

In closing, I would like to remind each member of the AHEPA family that preparations are in high gear for the 87th National Convention in San Francisco. In planning your travel, please visit www.ahepatravel.com for flights and shuttles to San Francisco. In addition, the Hyatt hotel discounted room rates are available. We look forward to seeing you by The Bay!

Greek of the Week!

Supreme Governor Louis Arvanitis

Supreme Governor Louis Arvanitis
This week's Greek of the week is none other than Supreme Governor Louis Arvanites of Montvale, NJ. Brother Arvanitis is a member of Chapter 54 Alexander Hamilton, and is 35 year member of the AHEPA. He has served the Supreme Lodge with distinction for close to two years, and this past Saturday surpassed any expectation (see photos).

Brother Louie hosted a complimentary formal banquet to raise funds for both the AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation and the AHEPA Journey to Greece. More than 350 AHEPA family members travelled to North Jersey and were treated to luxurious food -- from lobster to chocolate fondue fountains. Fanoula Gulas, Chair of the AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation, flew from Birmingham, Alabama to receive a $10,000 donation. All the participants were amazed at the generosity of the Graycliff Catering.

For his brotherhood, commitment to Hellenism, and extraordinary leadership, please join AHEPA in honoring Supreme Governor Louis Arvanitis as this week's Greek of the Week!
