This Week For Greeks! - Vol.3 Issue 15 - Monday, April 27, 2009

A Message from the Supreme President

Supreme President Ike Gulas

Brothers, Sisters and Friends:

This week, we salute the organizers of the New York City Greek Independence Parade that was successfully held on Sunday. It was a glorious event, involving more than 25,000 marchers and 180,000-plus on-lookers. (see photos) I thank Supreme Vice President Nicholas Karacostas, Supreme Secretary Dr. John Grossomanides, Jr., Executive Director Basil Mossaidis, and the countless Ahepans from the NYC metro area who represented AHEPA and marched with pride to celebrate Greek Independence.

Memorial Day is on the horizon. This year, AHEPA will have the hallowed honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. This has been a time-honored tradition dating back to 1928. Moreover, our Brothers from Washington Chapter 31, with support from Col. Peter N. Derzis Chapter 438, Arlington, Va., will be placing grave markers on all Greek-Americans and Orthodox Christian soldiers who are buried at Arlington Cemetery and made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. As this has become an immense task, I understand the chapters are welcoming assistance any Brothers who are able to participate on the Saturday before Memorial Day. If you are able to participate this will be an incredibly moving day which you will remember for the rest of your life.

Finally, the 87th AHEPA Supreme Convention, June 29 to July 5, in beautiful San Francisco is right around the corner! The Daughters of Penelope will be celebrating its 80th anniversary and Actor Michael Pappajohn will be our Master of Ceremonies for our Grand Banquet. There are great registration packages available to AHEPA family members and guests. Please visit our Web site to register and www.ahepatravel.com to plan your travel arrangements.

Fraternally,
Ike Gulas Signature
Ike Gulas, Supreme President
