This Week For Greeks! - Vol.3 Issue 17 - Monday, May 11, 2009
A Message from the Supreme President
Brothers, Sisters and Friends:
This Friday we will bid our formal farewell to His Excellency Alexandros Mallias, and Mrs. Mallias, with a dinner we are co-hosting with the American Hellenic Institute (AHI). In my two terms as Supreme President, I have very much enjoyed working with Ambassador Mallias on many important issues affecting the U.S.-Greece relationship; primary of which is Greece's candidacy to become a visa waiver nation. Moreover, the ambassador and his fine staff were a tremendous help to us last summer helping us to plan and execute a successful, historic return to Athens for the 2008 Supreme Convention. We will miss him and Mrs. Mallias when they depart Washington in the near future. The entire AHEPA family wishes them the best in their future endeavors.
The 87th Annual Supreme Convention in San Francisco is just around the corner, June 29 - July 5. As a result, our many AHEPA family districts will be hosting their conventions this month. I want to take this opportunity to commend our districts for their outstanding work during the course of the past administrative year. I wish all our District Convention delegates successful deliberations. If you have a chance to attend a District Convention, please do so. Many conventions feature programs, seminars, and wonderful banquets that are worthwhile to attend. And of course, I look forward to seeing you in San Francisco. Please visit our Web site to register and AHEPAtravel.com to make your travel arrangements.
Finally, please remember that this Sunday is "AHEPA Sunday" as proclaimed by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. We are grateful to His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios for his encyclical and acknowledgement of the contributions of AHEPA to our society. Please utilize this opportunity to host a breakfast or coffee hour; to recruit new members, and to give back to the community.
Fraternally,

Ike Gulas, Supreme President
