A Message from the Executive Director

Basil Mossaidis

Brothers, Sisters and Friends:

Once again, I am thrilled to be able to communicate through our TWFG newsletter. I would like to thank our President Ike Gulas for allowing me the opportunity to bring relevant and timely information to our members and friends.

We are busy finalizing events for the upcoming Supreme Convention in San Francisco June 29-July 5, 2009. As a reminder, the deadline for AHEPA delegates to report is June 1, 2009. All AHEPA chapters must report delegates by the deadline or they will not be able to participate at the convention. Legislation passed in 2007 prohibits delegates to be seated if they are reported late. If you are not reported as a delegate by midnight June 1, 2009, you will not be seated. This is a constitutional mandate as passed by the delegates of the 2007 Supreme Convention.

As a final reminder, please keep AHEPA's travel web site, AHEPAtravel.com, in mind for discounted flights which are automatic when you sign on to the web site. Also, the contact information for the San Francisco Hyatt can be accessed by visiting our web page featuring the 87th Annual Supreme Convention.

This past week, I had the unique opportunity to represent AHEPA at the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. I was accompanied by Navy Capitan Demo Kolaras (ret.) and Army Colonel Nick Vamvakias (ret.). Both Brothers represented the Supreme President and their respective chapters. On Saturday, May 23 the Metro DC area AHEPA chapters of District 3 came together at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church for a briefing before going to Arlington Cemetery where we placed small wreaths on the gravesites of 505 Greek Americans or Greek Orthodox Christians buried at our national cemetery. (see photos) This long standing tradition could not have been done with out the hard work of the District 3 area chapters and I thank them for their efforts.

The AHEPA family is in the midst of a multitude of the District Conventions taking place over the next few weekends. We welcome everyone's participation if one is being held nearby your home city or ton. Also, we encourage all Districts to submit their newly elected officers to headquarters as soon as possible.

Lastly, I hope to see you at the upcoming dinner in honor of Supreme President Ike Gulas. It is being held Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama. Please send inquiries or make reservations by contacting: Chapter3News@Ahepa3.org.

Fraternally,
Basil Mossaidis Signature
