This Week For Greeks! - Vol.3 Issue 20 - Monday, June 22, 2009
A Message from the Supreme President
Brothers, Sisters and Friends:
As the San Francisco convention rapidly approaches, I would like to take this time to thank my Supreme Lodge who served with me the past two years and helped facilitate AHEPA's transition into the 21st century. Together we were able to achieve positive results on behalf of this historic organization in Greek America and have witnessed a renaissance of Hellenism. As I leave the office of Supreme President, I am confident that these capable individuals will continue to move AHEPA forward as we strive to achieve the goals and objectives which are so important to our mission and the Greek American community.
No man is an island and thus I have countless individuals, too numerous to name, to thank for helping me achieve the leadership of the Order of AHEPA. To these individuals I want to give my heartfelt thanks for allowing me the privilege to serve in such an important position in our community. I hope to see and thank many of you personally in San Francisco.
In addition, I want to express my gratitude to the Greek and Greek American media outlets during the past two years for covering and reporting on the many events, initiatives and stories emanating from AHEPA's proactive outreach. Thank you for recognizing the importance of AHEPA's continued existence and vital role in the community.
As those of you prepare to travel west for our annual Supreme Convention, I wish you safe travels and I look forward to an outstanding gathering.
Fraternally,

Ike Gulas, Supreme President

Greek of the Week!
LA City Attorney Carmen Trutanich
One of the central Hellenic traditions AHEPA works to foster is civic leadership. A recent addition to the long list of city, state and federally elected officials AHEPA is proud to call brother is Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich. Last month, by landslide victory, Brother Carman beat a local city councilmember to become the city's lead counsel.
Brother Trutanich joined our Order in 2007 and remains an active member of Chapter 426 in El Camino Real District 20.
Carmen's parents are first generation Americans, and from an early age, nicknamed him "Nuch". After earning an MBA from USC, he went on to law school South Bay University. In his career he has taught Business Management and Real Estate law at local community colleges and then became Deputy District Attorney for the county of Los Angeles. In that role he proved himself to be an accomplished trial attorney and tough prosecutor, handing many cases involving LA's ongoing gang violence.
For his leadership in the legal profession, his service to the people of Los Angeles, and his close ties to our Order, please join AHEPA in honoring Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich as this week's Greek of the Week!
