Greek Flag Desecrated
Cross Replaced by Nazi Swastika

Help Stop Hate Propaganda!

On March 30, 2008, billboards displayed in Skopje displayed a defaced Greek flag, having replaced the Cross that appears in the upper left-hand corner of the flag with a Nazi swastika.

This provocative act on the part of the citizenry of FYROM is enabled by the government of FYROM's condoning and dissemination of hate propaganda toward Greece.


Greece, a key NATO ally and EU member, will oppose FYROM's membership into NATO unless a mutually agreeable solution is found by this week's NATO Summit in Bucharest. It will become increasingly difficult for Greece to negotiate a mutually acceptable name with FYROM should the latter become a NATO member and eventually an EU member.

Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) should stop the utilization of materials that violate provisions of the United Nations-brokered Interim Agreement between the FYROM and Greece regarding "hostile activities or propaganda" and should work with the United Nations and Greece to achieve longstanding United States and United Nations policy goals of finding a mutually-acceptable official name for the FYROM.
